Loi Nguyen was born on December 12, 1952 and passed away on March 14, 2024 at the age of 75. He is survived by his wife, Hinh Nguyen, two brothers, fourteen children, 23 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Despite the many hardships Loi endured throughout 75 years of his life, he still created many good memories with his loved ones and friends. He was a simple man with little words, yet Loi left many impactful imprints in our lives.
Loi was raised in Phan Rí, a fisherman village along Vietnam coast line. This paved the way for him to be a fisherman/shrimper most of his life. He was always most comfortable being offshore on the water. Loi was an exceptional navigator, be it on land or the tricky water ways of Louisiana Bayou. That was one thing he was always better at than his wife, which she actually acknowledges! This helped him to be captain for most of his deep sea fishing career until he obtained his own shrimping boat. Loi was never afraid to get lost since he had a great sense of direction. He always found his way home.
Loi liked to read and watch the Chinese martial art stories, widely known as Wuxi Novels by Jin Yong. He also took interest in Chinese and Vietnamese mythology and history. He enjoyed soulful Vietnamese love songs and opera, known as “Cai Luong” . He could belt out some traditional Vietnamese “Ho”, which required a lot of breath. Loi had very strong lungs. He was a very adept card player and was exceptional with “Co Tuong”, Xiang Chinese Chess. He would have many undefeated streaks in chess matches amongst his friends, and there were no card games he couldn’t learn how to play.
Our dad was a simple man with simple pleasure. His biggest achievement was raising his kids and providing for our family the best way he could. His children are forever grateful for his hard-work and sacrifice. He is loved and will be missed dearly. May he rest in peace.
