Earl A. Schmidt (Apple), retired Auditor for Exxon USA, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017, at the age of 103. Beloved husband of Edith C. Schmidt. Son of the late Rudolph M. Schmidt and Anne O Schmidt. Brother of the late Lester H. Schmidt and Rudolph Schmidt. He is also survived by several nephews.
Mr. Schmidt worked for Exxon for 36 years, serving in New Orleans, LA, Memphis, TN, Charlotte, NC and Dallas, TX, where he retired in 1971. He graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1930 and Loyola University in 1934. He was active in Athletics at Loyola from 1930 to 1934. He was active in Athletics at the New Orleans Athletic Club from 1934 to 1940 and later served on the Board of Directors and as Vice-President. He was a Charter Member and Past Commander of NOAC Post 282 of the American Legion. He was District Commander of the First District American Legion in 1954 to 1955. He was a past President of the Exxon Annuitant Club of New Orleans and the Seniors Golf Club at City Park. He was also a member of the St. John and Dollar Golf Clubs at City Park. Mr. Schmidt was a member of American Legion Board of Directors of the First District Base Ball Corp and the Convention Corp. He was a member of Voiture 108 of the Forty and Eight and VFW Post 6640 in Metairie. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1942 to 1946 and attained the rank of Lieutenant.
